Neck Lift: Who can benefit?
This procedure is typically performed on patients who are 40 to 60 years old who exhibit folds, fat deposits and hanging tissue below the chin. The procedure can be combined with neck liposuction or, in some cases where skin elasticity is adequate, liposuction alone can correct the problem.
How Neck Lift Surgery is Performed
A neck lift is usually done under local anesthesia, with an operating time of approximately 2-3 hours.
The surgical techniques used during this procedure are similar to a facelift with extra attention given to the sagging neck muscles (plastysma). An incision may be placed at the front of the earlobe, which extends around the back of the ear into the hairline. Skin is tightened, sagging muscles are tightened or partially removed and fat deposits are removed through a small incision below the chin.
The contour of the neck is thereby improved and the jaw line and chin exhibit a more angular appearance.
Recovering From Your Neck Lift
Like a facelift, you may need 2 to 3 weeks to recover from surgery. A bandage will be wrapped around the neck area to minimize swelling and promote skin contraction. You will probably experience some numbness, bruising and puffiness. Most patients plan to wear high-necked clothing during the recovery period. Follow Dr. Heir’s post-operative instructions carefully to make your recovery as smooth as possible.
