How Otoplasty Works
This is an outpatient procedure requiring about 2 hours of operating time. Local anesthesia is recommended for adults, while young children may need general anesthesia.
A small incision is made behind the ear, where Dr. Heir reshapes the cartilage and folds the ear back to create a more proportional shape and position. Sutures are placed to close the incision and maintain the new form.
After Otoplasty
After ear surgery, you can return to your normal routine after approximately 5 to 7 days. Immediately after the operation, your head will be wrapped in a bandage, followed by a light dressing after the initial recovery period. If stitches are used, they will be removed within one week. Follow Dr. Heir’s post-operative instructions closely to ensure that your recovery goes as smooth as possible.
Once healing is complete, you will have ears that appear proportional and as a result, you should have improved self-confidence.
