Dermabrasion is a surgical skin resurfacing procedure that corrects conditions that reside on the top layers of a person’s skin. It can be accurately described as very precise surgical scraping technique. Skin imperfections like acne scars, lesions, wrinkles and other irregularities are treatable with dermabrasion.
How Dermabrasion Works
During a dermabrasion procedure, the top layers of skin are scraped away with a special abrading instrument. Along with those top layers, defects and irregularities are removed as well. When the skin heals, the skin surface exhibits a smoother contour.
How much does a Dermabrasion cost in Sacramento?

Who can benefit from dermabrasion?
Dr. Heir may recommend dermabrasion for you if:
- You have deep skin imperfections which can’t be treated with another method
- Acne scars, poor texture, or coarse wrinkles are present on your skin
- You are not actively experiencing acne breakouts
What You Can Expect After Dermabrasion
After dermabrasion, patients often experience red, swollen skin that tingles or burns. Medication can be prescribed by Dr. Heir to alleviate some of these effects.
Swelling usually subsides within a few days and a scab or crust forms over the treated area. New skin will then start to grow underneath. Recovery time varies depending on whether you have undergone a full facial resurfacing or a "spot treatment" focused on a localized area. With the former, a recovery of about two weeks should be expected. It may take quite a while for the final results of dermabasion to be realized, but when the healing process is over, the skin can show a dramatic improvement.
